Introduction to MTI

The School of Foreign Languages of Shandong Jianzhu University was founded in 1999 and renamed as School of Foreign Languages in April 2006. The school now has two undergraduate majors in English and German and a master's degree in translation. In 2014, the school was authorized to obtain a master's degree in translation, and in 2015, postgraduate students were enrolled in English translation and English interpretation; In 2017, the field of German translation was added, and in 2018, postgraduate students in German translation were recruited. In July, 2018, it passed the special evaluation organized by the China National Committee for Graduate Education of Translation and Interpreting. In 2020, the innovation team of classics translation and dissemination declared by Dr. Liu Liyi, was supported by the "Youth Innovation Technology Support Program for Universities of Shandong Province”. In 2022, the "International architectural engineering multimodal big data mining laboratory" declared by the school won the first batch of construction projects of liberal arts laboratories in universities in Shandong Province. At present, there are 3 high-quality courses for postgraduate students in Shandong Province, 3 excellent teaching case bases for postgraduate students in Shandong Province, and one provincial key teaching reform program for postgraduate.

There are 47 faculty members in the Master of Translation degree education in the School of Foreign Languages, including 23 on-campus supervisors, 10 off-campus  supervisors and 14 other faculty members. There are 22 instructors for English translation, 10 instructors for English interpretation, and 4 instructors for German translation, all of whom have master's degrees or above, including 17 doctoral degrees. Among the existing faculty members, 33 of them have senior titles, among which 11 are senior.

In the past five years, full-time teachers have published more than 40 academic papers related to translation or translation teaching, 15 of which have been published in SSCI, CSSCI or core foreign language journals, and 8 academic books and more than 40 translations have been published. The faculty has undertaken 14 research projects at or above the provincial and ministerial level related to translation or translation teaching, and more than 30 horizontal projects, including 5 projects of the National Social Science Foundation, 2 projects of the Humanities and Social Science Foundation of the Ministry of Education, 2 projects of the Shandong Provincial Postgraduate Teaching Reform, and 9 projects of the Shandong Provincial Social Science Planning. The full-time teachers of translation have published more than 20 translations, with a total translation volume of nearly 10 million words; the full-time teachers of interpretation have participated in more than 150 conferences at home and abroad. There are 8 contracted off-campus internship bases and 2 on-campus internship bases, all of which can provide translation practice opportunities for students.

Students have achieved remarkable results in professional practice and innovation and entrepreneurship. In the past five years, the postgraduates have won more than 100 provincial-level competitions in this field, published six translations, more than 30 academic papers and more than 15 million words in translation practice. The project of international construction engineering language service provider hosted by the graduates has won the gold medal of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in Shandong province, the bronze medal of the 11th Challenge Cup  and the silver medal of the 12th Challenge Cup .
